Selank vs Zilucoplan (Zilbrysq)

An educational, source-based comparison of Selank and Zilucoplan (Zilbrysq) — how each peptide works, what it's researched for, and what to know before going deeper.

Anxiolytic · Nootropic
Selank

Anxiolytic-style peptide researched for stress modulation.

Mechanism

A synthetic analog of the immunomodulatory peptide tuftsin. Research suggests it modulates GABAergic and serotonergic systems and influences expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor without the sedation or dependence profile of benzodiazepines.

Research areas
  • Generalized anxiety models
  • BDNF expression
  • Immune modulation
  • Memory and learning in rodent models
Considerations
  • Not FDA-approved.
  • Most studies are Russian clinical literature.

Complement Inhibitor · Neuromuscular
Zilucoplan (Zilbrysq)

Macrocyclic peptide complement C5 inhibitor for generalized myasthenia gravis.

Mechanism

A synthetic 15-amino-acid macrocyclic peptide that binds complement component C5 and blocks its cleavage to C5a/C5b, preventing formation of the membrane attack complex at the neuromuscular junction. Self-administered subcutaneously.

Research areas
  • Generalized myasthenia gravis (anti-AChR antibody positive)
Considerations
  • FDA-approved 2023.
  • Requires meningococcal vaccination — risk of serious meningococcal infection.
  • Injection-site reactions common.
